What it actually applies to
Skin runs near pH five, baking soda runs near nine, and that paste strips the acid layer your skin uses to protect itself. On melanated skin, that irritation answers with more pigment, not less.
What the science supports
It never touched the mark — it cleared the dead layer above it. The marked cells are still underneath, riding the same slow escalator every skin cell takes to the surface. Velvety and persistent? That's a clinician question.
